Everyone has been touched by mental illness in some way or another. Whether they have a friend, a family member, or even have their own mental illness they battle with. Many people have been strong enough to share their experiences or those around them experiences to either get people talking about mental illness, or to just get it out which can be such a relief to finally get this big part of their life out there, or some people just want others to know they are not alone, or some people just want to get positive feedback from others to show themselves that they are loved and that there are people out there that cares about them. No matter the reason it doesn’t matter.
Mental Illness is such a life halting issue. Some people just assume it’s human to be emotional, which it is. It’s alright to be upset that you didn’t get the job or got dumped, or it’s okay to be frustrated and angry about the long line or traffic but mental illness comes in when it affects your day to day living. You no longer get excited about the things you use to, you can no longer handle being social in fear you will have a panic or anxiety attack, you become so concerned with your weight or appearance that you hide your body and no longer care about yourself. One minute your happy and then the smallest thing can make you feel overwhelmed and emotional and you think there is something wrong with you because you can’t control it. You weren’t always this way and you don’t want to be this way anymore.
Find someone to help whether that is a loved one, a close friend, or a mental health professional. You might think you are strong enough to do this on you own and you might be right, you can get all the self-help books, you can journal, do some self-care, and do whatever it takes. You are strong. Some of us just need some extra help. Life is hard, all of us struggle, all of us are emotional, and none of us are alone.
