Synopsis:The Great Wall is a 2016 monster film directed by Zhang Yimou and starring Matt Damon, who plays a European mercenary in China during the Song dynasty. He encounters the Great Wall of China and meets Chinese soldiers who defend against monsters.

I RATE THIS MOVIE 7 OUT OF 10.

My Review:

This movie was surprisingly really good. I knew going into the movie that it wasn't getting much hype or rave reviews so I wasn't expecting too much but I found the movie to be entertaining and worthwhile to watch. The Cinematography was great. There was a great use of colours (to depict the different types of soldiers) and the scenery was interesting. It was really neat to see the different hidden gems within the great wall which were used to battle the monsters (in particular there is a really cool scissor apparatus). The different methods in which the soldiers fought was really cool (blue for bungee jumping spear women, red for archers, black for foot soldiers, etc.) and the monsters were an interesting lizard design. However, the whole concept of stopping the queen monster/alien from signaling the other monsters/aliens seemed to be a recycled concept that has been used many times before. I found the dynamic to be perfect between Matt Damon's character, William, and Pedro Pascal's character, Tovar. They had great camaraderie and there were plenty of funny scenes between the two. If you don't want to spend the money to see this movie in theaters than I still definitely recommend seeing this movie when it comes available.
