Synopsis: Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas, she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.

I RATE THIS MOVIE 6 OUT OF 10.

My Review:

This movie fails to do justice to the Underworld Franchise but it still has some redeeming entertaining qualities. Kate Beckinsale does a great job as Selene but you can tell that she's not the ageless warrior she once was. This movie feels somewhat disconnected from the entire franchise. Sure there are references and some continuity from the rest of the franchise but overall without Michael (formerly played by Scott Speedman) and without a strong villain the movie seemed to lack. I would have loved to have them go back to the roots of the franchise and have the vampires and lycans battling like they use to (maybe even have the setting in the past) or maybe forming an uneasy truce to take on a new threat or a human threat.

Spoilers ahead:

-There were two villains in this movie, one being Semira (Lara Pulver) a vampire leader and the other Marius (Tobias Menzies) the lycan leader. Semira started off being a good villain with a motive behind her distaste for Selene and a plan to use Selene to grow in power but then she stops playing a main role in the movie and turns a bit pathetic. Marius didn't have any motive (besides being a lycan) and his entire goal was a little lacking. Really what was he hoping for after getting Selene's daughter, Eve? Did he hope it would make him permanently stronger? How would it end the war? How did he manage to capture Michael, a hybrid? Also, how did he manage to gain such a large lycan army?

-Since when can vampires have children? Was this an established fact that I somehow missed?

-The use of Ameila was a poor attempt to bring back some of the originality from the earlier movies. The only reason she was included was to make a connection across the franchise. We haven't seen or heard from that character in awhile, and even when she was around she didn't do much to make a significant impact.

-The lack of Michael is really frustrating. I understand having to recast actors isn't ideal but he was such an important part of the first two movies that he should have been included.

-This super powered lycans look ridiculous.

-What happened to the human involvement in the lycan and vampire war?
