Synopsis: In the near future, a weary Logan (Hugh Jackman) cares for an ailing Professor X (Patrick Stewart) in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant (Dafne Keen) arrives, being pursued by dark forces.
I rate this movie 7.5 out of 10.
My Review:
This was such an action pack movie with some gory scenes. Wolverine's fight scenes were very bloody and gruesome but very Wolverine appropriate. In particular I liked that they finally showed Wolverine going into his berserker rage. Also, it was nice to see his caring/nurturing side as he took care of Professor Xavier. It was really hard to watch Wolverine and Professor X so weakened/old. However, with their age you see how strong their relationship is and it was quite endearing. Long are the days where the mutants are the superior ones which was kind of disappointed since the movies have established them as such powerhouses. Instead there are essentially no mutants in this movie which was disappointed (a point that I didn't like about the Wolverine movie). It was a bit confusing as to what caused the mutants to disappear (2 possible options) but it is made clear in the end. I liked the fact that they addressed how the X-Men are in comics (someone wrote about their stories) and that there are action figures of them. Laura (Dafne Keen) at first didn't really appeal to me since she has a very unique/odd look but she grew on me and I liked her chemistry with Wolverine. Also, her fight scenes were amazing. Overall, I like superhero movies where the superhero/comic book element is predominant. In this movie there is definitely more of a human and emotional vibe which does justice to Hugh Jackman's Wolverine's last onscreen appearance (appearance number 9) but also takes away from the Marvel comics feel.
*There is no after credit scene but I scene before the movie that teases Deadpool 2.
