Synopsis: A team of scientists explore an uncharted island in the Pacific, venturing into the domain of the mighty Kong, and must fight to escape a primal Eden.
I RATE THIS MOVIE 7.5 OUT OF 10.
My Review:
The film spends a lot of time establishing the environment of Skull Island which is both interesting and beautiful. There are tons of unique creatures and there is an interesting history of the island; one involving monsters known as skullcrawlers coming from below the Earth (much like kaiju in Pacific Rim) and Kong's species defending the land against them. Besides establishing the island a lot of time is spent focusing on Kong. Unlike the King Kong movies you may be familiar with this Kong is still young (which explains his rather juvenile appearance). I feel that not enough time is spent on the human characters and therefore they aren't given enough to do. In particular I feel that Tom Hiddleston's character wasn't used to his full potential (although he has a great action scene involving him in a gas mask). Also, I wish there was more interactions between Kong and Brie Larson or even Tom Hiddleston. Overall, there are some great action scenes, a great soundtrack, and great cinematography.
*There is an after credit scene (which I unfortunately wasn't aware of when I saw it).
