Synopsis:Belle (Emma Watson), a bright, beautiful and independent young woman, is taken prisoner by a beast (Dan Stevens) in its castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the beast's hideous exterior, allowing her to recognize the kind heart and soul of the true prince that hides on the inside.

I GIVE THIS MOVIE 7.5 OUT OF 10.

My Review:

I could not stop smiling throughout this entire movie. As a fan of the original animated Disney classic, I was not disappointed with how true they stick to the original movie. They did add some depth and backstory which really helped to flush out the original story better (the story of Belle's mom, reference to Gaston being in the army). All the favourite songs are there which had me grinning from ear to ear, with some really nice new additions. I was particularly impressed with the singing of all the actors and actresses. It felt like a better version of a Broadway production. Emma Watson does a great job portraying Belle as a strong, independent woman who isn't afraid to speak her mind. For Dan Steven's Beast it was hard for the actor to push past the animated character and shine through but he eventually does halfway throughout the movie with his charm, humour, and singing talents. Luke Evans as Gaston was a real treat for me. The Gaston in the animated movie is a jerk but this Gaston was a bit endearing at times and had a bit more depth than his animated counterpart. I feel that the movie could have used a bit more brightness (it started out with a lot of colour and warmth). However, something lacked with the animated Lumiere, Cogsworth, and the rest. Although they were visually stunning looking they just didn't pop or were as bright as they were in the animated movie.
