Synopsis:The year is 1926, and Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident, were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt's fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

I GIVE THIS MOVIE 7 OUT OF 10.

My Review:

The magic is somewhat back in this prequel movie to the Harry Potter franchise. Yes the wonderful wizarding world is there with all its' uniqueness and magic but it isn't quite as magical as when we were first introduced to Harry Potter. That may be due to the New York 1926 setting but nonetheless it still lacked a bit. This movie wasn't quite what I was expecting. I originally assumed it would be about Newt helping the American wizards with finding a magical creature since he was such an expert. However, this was not the case and even though it wasn't what I expected it was still a wonderfully entertaining movie. The magical creatures are so interesting and cool looking and I look forward to seeing the magical creature world expand if they do future movies. Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander is perfectly awkward and his little nuances were quite endearing. I liked that they explained what would happen to a wizard that tried to suppress their powers (Obscurus) and that they are attempting to show what the world was like with another dark wizard that isn't Voldemort (Grindelwald). Overall, it is a nice addition to the wizarding world of Harry Potter.
