Synopsis: A devoted dog (Josh Gad) discovers the meaning of its own existence through the lives of the humans it teaches to laugh and love. Reincarnated as multiple canines over the course of five decades, the lovable pooch develops an unbreakable bond with a kindred spirit named Ethan (Bryce Gheisar). As the boy grows older and comes to a crossroad, the dog once again comes back into his life to remind him of his true self.
I RATE THIS MOVIE 7 OUT OF 10.
My Review:
This was an adorable movie and yet it was also the movie that made me cry constantly throughout. The premise of the movie is that the dog (narrated by Josh Gad) gets reborn multiple times as new dogs to find the meaning of his life. Each time he dies, I bawled. You know it’s coming and yet its still equally devastating. Each new life you see how he or sometimes she touched the lives of his owners. The one story that really had an impact and who’s human character had some real depth was the story with Ethan (later played by Dennis Quaid). The movie has some surprising funny moments. The other stories were brief so it was somewhat hard to connect to the dog and the family in those stories. Also, the dog’s search for a purpose gets lost throughout the movie but even though that was the point of the movie I think the real point is to show the bond between the dog and its’ owner and how both sides are affected by that unbreakable bond.
