Synopsis: Cal Lynch travels back in time to 15th-century Spain through a revolutionary technology that unlocks the genetic memories contained in his DNA. There, he lives out the experiences of Aguilar de Nerha, a distant relative who's also a member of the Assassins, a secret society that fights to protect free will from the power-hungry Templar Order. Transformed by the past, Cal begins to gain the knowledge and physical skills necessary to battle the oppressive organization in the present.
I RATE THIS MOVIE 7 OUT OF 10.
My Review:
I was cautious when approaching this movie. Normally, video game movies don’t quite reach the potential that they could. This movie surprisingly was successful. I didn’t care for much for the modern-day story and I felt the movie could have been better if it was a period/historic piece. However, it still worked out okay. The villains, the Templar, could have had more of a backstory and the side characters needed character development. Michael Fassbender was well suited for the role and he did a good job playing both Cal and Aguilar. In the background (and the phony motivation for looking for a cure for violence) was the idea that violence is inherited/genetic. I thought that was an interesting idea and while this movie isn’t the movie to explore this, it’s an idea for another movie. The action scenes were phenomenal and very video game like.
