Synopsis: After the murder of his father, young Arthur's power-hungry uncle Vortigern seizes control of the crown. Robbed of his birthright, he grows up the hard way in the back alleys of the city, not knowing who he truly is. When fate leads him to pull the Excalibur sword from stone, Arthur embraces his true destiny to become a legendary fighter and leader.

I RATE THIS MOVIE 7 OUT OF 10.

My Review:

I had a hard time figuring out if I really liked this movie or not. After seeing it twice I came to the conclusion that this was a good movie. What threw me off was the fact that at times the movie felt like a Robin Hood-esque movie and not the noble, medieval world I have known from previous Arthurian movies. However, the movie had quite a bit of authentic Arthurian mythology to it (Lady of the Lake, Pendragon line, Merlin) and it was just a different take on the rise of a king. The action scenes were great and Charlie Hunnam did a great job as Arthur. He was likable, sassy, funny, and stole every scene he was in. Despite his limited appearance Eric Bana did a good job playing noble Uther Pendragon. Jude Law as Vortigern did an okay job as a villain but he didn't leave much of an impact. It was a bit dissapointing that a lot of things were glossed over. I understand that they may not have been important to the plot line but they did spark curiosity. For example: what goes on in the Blacklands? Where did those creatures come from? Can the mages only control animals or do they have more abilities? (a showcase of mage powers would be nice) Why did Vortigern resort to turning into a demon knight so quickly and not try anything else? What were those sea creature women and what did they gain besides a sacrifice?
